As a regular customer of Premier inns we found the service and information of the Springfield Chelmsford hotel very disappointing . Before staying we dropped off our luggage, and came back in the evening to stay overnight, having breakfast we departed, but no mention at any time of our stay about the parking charges which were due for staying at this hotel were mentioned consequently we have received a parking fine. This is the only Premier Inn we have stayed which evidently charges for its parking ,the staff. Should be trained to notify its customers about this unusual practice.. if you are thinking of staying here TAKE NOTE- infamous Horizon parking company will fine you for driving in and out of their car park!!

Highlights - Really comfy beds, we had a family room with the double and two single beds made up, and a travel cot. Every bed was comfortable and we all slept well. Breakfast was lovely, well-cooked and attentive service, perhaps on the pricey side if you don't eat much, but my husband ate enough to get his moneys worth! Downsides - thin walls and noisy neighbours, who to be fair were just talking or on the phone, but it was very loud! Room was very dated and not the cleanest. Everything just felt a bit, grimy and old. We were next to an internal door, so that kept banging closed and it also made our room door move slightly which was unsettling for my kids. Parking is extortionate at £7.00 in my opinion. No kids menu available which is a shame. Great for a quick place to sleep and eat breakfast if you're passing through the area, but I wouldn't be desperate to come back.

Got put in 3 different rooms, first room the bathroom was filthy - second room had a literal poo left in the toilet and the bed had marks on, along with the rest of the room not being clean - 3rd room was cleaner however, only one towel for a room of 2 adults, heating did not work so was freezing and toilet did not flush along with a cold shower - staff desk were helpfully so not their fault but not a good nights sleep

The staff worked very hard, too hard in fact. It is fair to say they had too much to do with not enough support. I think this is a reflection of the poor management and ownership of the hotel chain. Whitbread should be ashamed of the amount of duties they expect of their staff. For example the female colleague who was covering reception, also covered front of house in the restaurant, served at the bar, and waited on the dining tables at the same time. There was only one other member of staff serving in the restaurant that night. The same was true of breakfast. It was fair to say that guests were left waiting in all areas as a result. This is purely as a result of the greed of Whitbread in trying to cut corners. Additionally, this is the only Premier Inn that charges its customers for on site parking. As the hotel in on a retail park then there is little other option than to drive. This is just petty greed. Premier Inn used to represent good value and quality of service, but the brand is fast becoming one of poor service and exploiting its customers for as much money they can take. Clearly they have forgotten the meaning of hospitality. Whitbread should be thoroughly ashamed of its working practices and shows its staff and customers a little more respect.

Awful hotel - have stayed here many times over the years but NEVER again. Contacted Customer Service complaints and no response. Have got many photos to show the state of the hotel. Premium night rates plus other costs added like £7 per night parking !!

Situated just off the Boreham interchange, plenty of parking (£7.50 per night), clean rooms albeit a bit old fashioned. No USB points or plugs at the bedside cabinets. Beds, the usual lovely Hypnos beds. Fluffy towels, clean bathroom- what more could you want!?

Had a comfortable stay at this premier inn. The reception needs to be worked on as I found it a little chaotic. Maybe more staff would help as the staff seem to have to be all things.

Incompetent staff left me with a parking fine I can't get out of. We stopped off for breakfast at this A-road Service Area hotel as first-time customers. We were told explicitly that, as temporary guests, we didn't need to pay for parking and were shown straight to our table. Breakfast fine but 10 days later I got a parking ticket. No facility to call Premier Inn to get them to intervene as the direct line to the hotel's Reception and the Head Office line for customer service NEVER answer . I therefore have no alternative but to try to appeal the ticket with their parking outsource (Horizon Parking) which I imagine will fall on deaf ears

I would like to raise how awful my disabled mum got treated as well as how I was also spoken to. Sunday morning 1st Sept the lady on the restaurant and front desk was very rude to my disabled mum, talking at her, being highly insensitive and completely in appropriate. I then spoke to this lady who then practically laughed in my face, i have never been so disgusted in all my life. I asked for her name and she said I dont have to give you one and walked away laughing. I have worked in hospitality myself for years and still do and I have never been to outraged in all.my years. I would like something formally to happen this is unacceptable.

I have nothing but praise for the exceptional reception team namely Debs and Amy who have made the last 6 months like a home away from home while I’ve spent 3 nights a week here on business. Debs in particular is the warmest most engaging lady and Premier Inn should be proud to have her. Thank you to all of you who have made my stay so wonderful I will thoroughly miss you when my secondment in Chelmsford ends.

No air conditioning, no electrical outlets near the bed. No elevator service. Room like an oven baking you at about 90°.

Wow where do I even start, I wouldn’t even bother staying there not even if it was free. No air conditioning is an understatement!!! It was like being in an oven non stop. The room stank and there was no air whatsoever, the fan made no difference at all. To make things worst they have aircon where the staff are just not in the rooms or around the hotel. Honestly it was so bad I couldn’t even sleep, I was non stop up and down just thinking how could I survive the night. The young blonde lady who told me she was the assistant manager was so rude when I asked about breakfast and told me to come back at a later time. She embarrassed me by raising her voice for no reason and when I asked to speak to someone else she said she was the person in charge. I would never return or recommend this place!!!!

This hotel is very pleasant, the room was fantastic, clean and very tidy, but the room did not have any air conditioning and was a very uncomfortable night. Was given a fan but that didn’t make any difference, couldn’t open window as next to car park extremely noisy with cars, lorries, breakfast good but stay very uncomfortable comfortable, definitely didn’t have a guaranteed good nights sleep! Only thing missing is the air con, then this hotel would be perfect.

Absolutely awful place! Stayed in many a premier Inn but never experienced one so bad. The staff were lovely but that's about it. Waited ages on reception for someone to come and book us in, room wasn't overly clean (including white powder under bed 🫤) , bathroom was mouldy and smelt damp. The room was 26 degrees, we asked for the heating to be turned down to be told it wasn't possible. It was like a sauna even with the fan on. Not one of us slept. In the morning we went for breakfast and the kitchen was shut due to a problem so we ended up in mcdonalds (of all places 🤢) . On top of this they charge £7 for the car park, never paid for a premier inn car park in my life. Considering we stayed as had to attend a funeral it wasnt the greatest start. Anyway, needless to say I won't be going back but this isn't the fault of the staff as they were lovely and totally empathetic to our complaint.

Staff and food were excellent although the building looks a bit "tired" in places but this does not detract from the overall experience.
